The Oscar Project
Quentin Tarantino's 9th film shows up in cinemas this weekend as the only major wide release. Chances are it won't be as big as any of the recent releases from Disney, but will hold its own. There are also a few documentaries releasing this week that stand a good chance of getting an Oscar nomination this time around so keep your eyes out for them as well.

We get our weekly releases a few days early this week with the July 4th holiday landing on a Thursday. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean that there will be much in the way of big films hitting theaters as we already had the biggest release of the week on Tuesday. Horror if the name of the game in the only wide release tomorrow so if that's your game, check it out. There are also several films that have been out for a few weeks that are good family fun including Toy Story 4, Aladdin, and The Secret Life of Pets 2. It's been two months since we found out what happened to the Avengers crew in Endgame. While the film was "re-released" last weekend with some additional footage included, the best reason to go see it again arrives in theaters this week. Bumped up from it's original July 5th release date to July 2nd, Spider-Man: Far From Home picks up where Endgame left off. If you haven't seen Endgame, don't watch the trailer below since it contains major spoilers for that film. If you have seen it, you know that there is a major shift in the power dynamic following that film, and based on the trailer, Spider-Man is going to be asked to step up and fill the void. We are winding down the month of June with just one wide release this weekend, but also see several big names in some of the limited releases. And while I haven't included it here, Avengers: Endgame gets some bonus footage this weekend in preparation for the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home next week. It's finally here, the end of the MCU's Infinity Saga that started 11 years ago with the first Iron Man film. Undoubtedly, Avengers: Endgame will be the one film that just about anyone going to the movies this weekend is planning on seeing. There are other films coming out this weekend that you may want to check out, especially if Endgame is sold out when you get to the theater.
It's a sequel weekend, kind of, with one very obvious sequel and one that's a little less obvious.
While you're here, check out the new section I've added to the website where I am starting to post full length film reviews. The first film up is the Oscar nominated film RBG. |
