THE OSCAR PROJECT

What is the Oscar Project?
This project is a personal quest of mine. It started out of another project I was working on where I wanted to blend my love of films and poetry by writing a poem inspired by each film that has won the Oscar for Best Picture since 1929. You can find out more about that project and check for updates by visiting www.filmpoems.com.
To be honest, after a while, I got a little bored with just watching the winner of the big prize from each year and wanted to go bigger. In 2017, I started seeking out all of the films from the 2016 Oscar year to see how many of them I could watch. I'm talking about every film NOMINATED, not just the winners! For 2016, that totaled 62 films in all. With some effort, I saw about 85% of them through the end of 2017 and have since pushed that up over 90%!
So what about 2017? Well, that's where I am right now. The Oscar ceremony for this year is behind us, but that means many of the films are just now coming out on DVD and Blu-Ray, so it's much easier to find them. So as they come out, I'm going to walk through the films that I watch for the 2017 Oscar year and comment on them as I go. I don't expect to give full reviews of the films, but perhaps look at them with a more critical eye based on my background analyzing media for my English degree in college. There may be occasional contributions from others that I meet along the way and I'm sure I will start looking ahead to the next Oscars at some point later in the year.
I hope you enjoy the Oscar Project.
