The Oscar Project
So now that the holidays are over, it's time to slog our way through the films that didn't quite make the cut for a holiday release last year. Granted, there are some films I'm looking forward to over the next few weeks and months, but don't expect many of these to be in contention for Oscars around this time next year. This first weekend of the year brings only one new wide release and a handful of limited releases. Check them out below. The Grudge You know I don't do horror films, so it should come as no surprise that I've never seen the 2004 film The Grudge starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, or the Japanese film Ju-On: The Grudge from 2002 that both American films are based on. I likely won't ever see this one either, but I know there are plenty of folks out there who are fans and will check this one out. Based on information online, this film looks like a concurrentquel (that's a sequel that runs concurrent to the previous film, a word I just made up). That differentiates it from the two sequels from 2006 and 2009. Why we need another story that runs at the same time as the other, and has the same title, I will never understand, but here it is.
